Pondicherry-based man held for raping widow on pretext of marriage

On Friday, Mumbai Police announced the arrest of a man for allegedly raping a widow under the guise of marrying her.

The accused was apprehended from his native village in Tamil Nadu’s Pondicherry just three days after his marriage, according to police. According to police, the accused (26) and the victim (30) met on Facebook 6 years ago, after which the accused youth travelled to Mumbai and met the woman.

He began a physical relationship with the victim under the guise of marrying her and caring for her daughter, according to police, who added that on March 27, the woman learned that the accused had gone to his native village to marry another girl.

The woman reported the incident to Mumbai’s Cuffe Parade police station. The accused was arrested and brought to Mumbai three days after the complaint was filed. He was brought before a court, which sentenced him to police custody. An officer stated on April 1 that
