Police Summons BJP Leader and Doctors Amid Probe into Medical College Rape-Murder Case

The Kolkata Police has summoned BJP leader Locket Chatterjee and doctors Kunal Sarkar and Subarno Goswami for questioning today at 3 p.m. as part of an investigation into allegations of spreading misinformation regarding the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College.

Meanwhile, in response to the situation, Kolkata Police have imposed prohibitory orders around the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from Sunday until August 24, banning gatherings of more than five people in the area. The hospital has been the focal point of ongoing protests following the incident.

However, the police have enforced Section 163(2) of the BNSS in the vicinity of the hospital, extending to the Shyambazar five-point crossing, according to the official order. Violators of the order will be subject to penalties under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

In related developments, former National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma commented on Saturday that the rape and murder of the postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College likely involved multiple individuals. She accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of attempting to shield those responsible, stating that the ongoing CBI investigation will reveal what Banerjee was trying to conceal.
