Police Raid Uncovers Illegal Ghee Manufacturing Unit in Cuttack

Owner Detained After Discovery of Harmful Chemicals Used in Ghee Production

In a significant crackdown, police in Cuttack, Odisha, uncovered an illegal ghee production unit on Thursday, which was using harmful chemicals in its products. The owner of the unit was detained following the raid.

Tip-off Leads to Raid

The raid was initiated after the inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Jagatpur police station received credible information regarding illegal activities at a unit in Jagatpur New Industrial Estate. Upon receiving the tip-off, the IIC informed the food safety and health officers about the suspicious activities at the facility.

Joint Operation Reveals Adulterated Ghee

A team comprising officials from the Jagatpur police station and the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) health department conducted the raid. During the operation, authorities discovered a large quantity of adulterated ghee along with equipment used to manufacture it.

Harmful Chemicals Found in Production Process

Preliminary investigations revealed that the illegal unit was producing ghee using artificial essence and harmful vanaspati, a practice that poses serious health risks. The product was being sold under the brand name ‘Bal Gopal Ghee.’

Owner Detained, Investigation Underway

The police have detained the owner of the unit and launched a thorough investigation into the case. Further action is expected as authorities continue to investigate the extent of the illegal operation.
