PM praises Haryana for Malaria control

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the Health Department of Kurukshetra district of Haryana for its efforts to control malaria in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme.

Hailing the efforts of the health district, the Prime Minister has described the district’s health department’s model of spreading awareness through street plays and radio messages as inspirational for the entire country. The Prime Minister said that public participation is important for malaria prevention, and this model of Kurukshetra proves that serious health challenges can be overcome through collective efforts.

“When the tea garden dwellers united to eradicate it, they started getting success to a great extent. In this effort, they have made full use of technology as well as social media. Similarly, Kurukshetra district of Haryana has presented a very good model for controlling malaria. Here, public participation for monitoring Malaria has been quite successful”, said the Prime Minister.

Also the Prime Minister praised the efforts of the state government to improve health services in Haryana under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. He said, “Kurukshetra district has presented an exemplary example of malaria control. Mosquito breeding was curbed by running awareness campaigns through public participation.”

According to the prime minister Malaria ranks third among all infectious diseases that kill children between one month and five years of age. “Today, I can say with satisfaction that the countrymen have collectively, strongly fought this challenge. The report of the World Health Organization – WHO mentions – In India, there has been an 80 percent reduction in the number of malaria cases and deaths due to it between 2015 & 2023”, he said.

Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared the success story of Kurukshetra’s efforts in malaria prevention with the entire country during his “Mann Ki Baat” programme. He said that the Haryana Health Department ran special campaigns to control mosquito breeding, spread awareness through radio and other mediums, and successfully reduced malaria cases.

The Prime Minister commended Haryana’s efforts and mentioned that the World Health Organization (WHO) has also recognized India’s initiatives in malaria prevention, he said.
