PM Narendra Modi wishes Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu on Eid

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed his greetings to Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu and the people of Maldives on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr. In his message, PM Modi emphasized the longstanding cultural and civilizational ties between India and Maldives.

The Indian High Commission in Maldives shared PM Modi’s greetings to Mohamed Muizzu on the social media platform X, highlighting the warm wishes extended by PM Modi to the President, the government, and the people of Maldives on the auspicious occasion of Eid-Al-Fitr. The Commission underscored the significance of the cultural and historical bonds shared by the two nations.

In a press release, the Indian Commission in Maldives reiterated PM Modi’s warm greetings to President Muizzu, the government, and the people of Maldives on Eid Al Fitr. PM Modi also emphasized the enduring cultural and civilizational connections between India and Maldives, reflecting on the values of compassion, brotherhood, and togetherness essential for building a peaceful and inclusive world.

Eid ul-Fitr, celebrated on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic lunar calendar, holds great significance, with moon sighting being an integral part of Islamic culture. The festival marks the end of the holy month of Ramzan and the commencement of Shawwal, symbolizing the start of a new Islamic year.

PM Modi’s Eid greetings to Muizzu come amidst strained relations between India and Maldives. While ties had become tense since President Mohamed Muizzu took office, with criticisms directed at India during and after the presidential polls, recent developments have shown signs of reconciliation. Muizzu requested debt relief measures from India in March, expressing the desire for continued close ties between the two nations. He reassured that actions or statements made would not adversely affect the relationship between Maldives and India.
