On the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning to Pakistan amid a rise in attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a gathering at the Kargil War Memorial, Modi emphasized that India would overcome every challenge posed by terrorism, asserting that Pakistan’s attempts at terrorism and proxy warfare would not succeed. He declared that Indian soldiers would “crush terrorism with full force” and deliver a strong response to any threats.
The Prime Minister also virtually inaugurated the Shinkun La Tunnel Project. The 4.1-km-long twin-tube tunnel, being constructed at an altitude of approximately 15,800 feet, will be the highest in the world upon completion. This project aims to provide all-weather connectivity to Leh, enhancing logistical support and regional development in Ladakh.
Modi highlighted that the day commemorates not just the victory in Operation Vijay but also symbolizes the enduring sacrifices made for the nation. He criticized the opposition for politicizing the Agnipath recruitment scheme and underscored his government’s focus on defense reforms, infrastructure development, and growth in the tourism sector in Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.
He also noted that August 5 will mark five years since the abrogation of Article 370, signaling a new future and ambitious dreams for Jammu and Kashmir.
