Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a 17-kilometre-long priority section on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor on 20 October, NCRTC officials said on Monday.

The priority section of RRTS or RAPIDX will be thrown open between Duhai and Sahibabad, covering 17 kilometres. The priority section includes five stations; Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai Depot. PM Modi is expected to flag off the first RAPIDX RRTS train in Ghaziabad.

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS, which is a first-of-its-kind regional connectivity project, will cover 82 kilometres in just an hour’s time once it is completed in 2025.

The trains are similar to metro trains from the outside but their coaches are equipped with features that include luggage carriers and mini-screens, the officials added. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has been tasked to oversee the construction of India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System, or RRTS, between Delhi and Meerut.

The entire stretch, about 82.15 kilometres long, that covers Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut using the RRTS is targeted to be operational by June 2025, the NCRTC had earlier announced.

The RRTS trains feature several commuter-centric facilities such as overhead luggage racks, Wi-Fi, as well as mobile phones and laptop charging facilities at every seat.

Each train will also include one premium-class car with wider seats, more legroom, and coat hangers. The trains will also come equipped with a vending machine facility.
