On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while visiting the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, took a holy bath at Triveni Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. He reached Arail Ghat around 11:00 am and performed the sacred ritual, offering prayers to Maa Ganga.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, which started on Paush Purnima on January 13, 2025, is the world’s largest spiritual and cultural congregation, drawing millions of devotees from all over the world. The festival will go on till Mahashivratri on February 26, 2025. The festival is held every 12 years and has deep religious importance, as pilgrims believe that a holy dip at the Sangam cleanses them of sins and liberates them from the cycle of rebirth.

More Stringent Security Arrangements at Maha Kumbh

Sporadically anticipating the PM’s visit to Prayagraj, officials arranged more sensitive security measures, particularly around Sangam. They put the public and the forces in a state of high alert by deploying members from the NSG, the police, and others for maintaining safety. Among five mela zones—Jhunsi, Parade, Sangam, Teliyarganj, and Arail—the areas under each were tagged as high security areas.

Proud PM Modi over Cultural Heritage

Prime Minister Modi’s presence in the Maha Kumbh Mela shows his zeal to maintain and promote India’s rich cultural as well as spiritual traditions. In December 2024, he had inaugurated 167 development projects worth ₹5,500 crore during his visit to Prayagraj. Those included improvement in connectivity, amenities as well as services meant for pilgrims and inhabitants both.

International Guest Arrivals and Infrastructure Upgrades

According to the Uttar Pradesh administration, the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela has drawn around 38 crore (380 million) pilgrims from India and other countries. Authorities have set up a vast tent city with thousands of kitchens and restrooms to handle the enormous influx of devotees. Furthermore, 50,000 security guards have been sent in to control the throng and stop mishaps, guaranteeing that everyone attending has a safe and spiritually enlightening experience.
