PM Modi Inaugurates Second Phase of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Extension and Launches Key Development Projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Extension on Monday. The project, developed by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) in partnership with the Government of Gujarat and the Central government, marks a significant milestone in the city’s infrastructure expansion.

Following the inauguration, PM Modi, accompanied by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, took a metro ride from Section 1 Metro Station to GIFT City Metro Station.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several key development projects in Ahmedabad, totaling over ₹8,000 crores. These include the quadrupling of the Samakhiali-Gandhidham and Gandhidham-Adipur railway lines, iconic road developments in Ahmedabad, and the construction of flyover bridges at Bakrol, Hathijan, Ramol, and Panjarpol Junctions.

PM Modi will also inaugurate a 30 MW solar system, a 35 MW BESS Solar PV Project at Kutch Lignite Thermal Power Station, and new substations in Morbi and Rajkot.

Additionally, he will launch the Single Window IT System (SWITS) for the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) to streamline financial services operations.

As part of his visit, the Prime Minister will also sanction over 30,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin and release the first installment for these homes. He will also hand over completed houses under both the urban and rural segments of the PMAY.

Finally, PM Modi will flag off India’s first Vande Metro from Bhuj to Ahmedabad, along with several new Vande Bharat train services across key routes, including Nagpur to Secunderabad, Kolhapur to Pune, Agra Cantt to Banaras, Durg to Visakhapatnam, Pune to Hubballi, and a 20-coach Vande Bharat train from Varanasi to Delhi.
