Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a locomotive manufacturing plant in Dahod, Gujarat on Monday. The factory marks a major step toward improving India’s railway network. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel were present at the event.
In addition, Modi flagged off the first electric locomotive built at the plant. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, this factory will produce 9000-horsepower electric engines for both Indian use and exports.

New engines to boost railway capacity
Moreover, these engines are expected to increase the freight-carrying capacity of Indian Railways. They will come with regenerative braking systems that save energy and support environmental goals. The plant reflects Modi’s commitment to better travel infrastructure and stronger connectivity.
PM announces ₹24,000 crore projects
Following the factory opening, PM Modi laid the foundation stone and launched several development projects worth more than ₹24,000 crore. These included railway works and other schemes by the Gujarat government.
He also flagged off two trains — the Vande Bharat Express between Veraval and Ahmedabad and another express train between Valsad and Dahod.
PM greets Vadodara in morning roadshow
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister held a roadshow in Vadodara. Crowds gathered with Indian flags and shouted slogans as Modi waved at them. Many people showered flower petals while patriotic songs played in the background.
Expressing his gratitude on social media, Modi wrote on X, “Thank you, Vadodara! Extremely delighted to be in this great city. It was a splendid roadshow and that too in the morning! Gratitude to all those who showered their blessings.”

Notably, the family of Indian Army officer Colonel Sofiya Qureshi — known for her role in Operation Sindoor — also joined the roadshow and welcomed the Prime Minister with flowers.
