In the wake of the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of at least 26 people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wasted no time in addressing the crisis. Upon his return from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday morning, Modi held an emergency meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the Delhi airport.

The meeting also included Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, as officials briefed the Prime Minister about the devastating attack that has shocked the nation. Modi’s swift return was a testament to the gravity of the situation, and his commitment to ensuring justice for the victims.

Pahalgam Attack: 26 Dead, Including Tourists from UAE and Nepal

The terrorist assault took place on Tuesday at Baisaran, a popular tourist destination in Pahalgam, South Kashmir. Witnesses reported that the terrorists, armed and ready, indiscriminately opened fire on the tourists at around 2:30 pm. Tragically, 26 people lost their lives in the attack, including two foreign nationals from the UAE and Nepal. Several others were injured.

Security forces quickly responded, with helicopters being dispatched to evacuate the injured due to the remote nature of the location. Families of the victims were escorted to the government-run Pahalgam Club under heavy security.

Home Minister Amit Shah Takes Charge in Srinagar

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah flew into Srinagar on Tuesday evening, after the attack, to personally oversee the security measures and ensure that immediate steps were being taken to control the situation. The presence of top leadership, both in Delhi and Srinagar, highlighted the seriousness of the situation.

Modi had cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the importance of the national security situation back home. He vowed to ensure that justice was delivered swiftly.

Terrorist Group Claims Responsibility

The Resistance Front (TRF), a faction associated with the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. The group’s statement on social media further intensified the call for retaliation.

In the hours following the attack, security forces launched extensive operations to apprehend the attackers. Investigations are currently underway to confirm the identities of those responsible and to prevent further incidents.

National Outrage and International Attention

As details of the attack spread, reactions poured in from across the globe. The killing of foreign nationals in the attack has drawn international attention, and both the UAE and Nepal have expressed their condolences. The Indian government is facing calls for swift action in response to this brutal assault on tourists.

This attack marks the deadliest strike on the region in years, drawing comparisons to the 2019 Pulwama attack. With emotions running high, the Prime Minister and Home Minister have vowed to restore peace and justice to the region, ensuring that those responsible are brought to account.
