PIB Fact Check: Fake Advisory Claims Govt Asked People To Turn Off Location Services

A misleading advisory has gone viral on social media, falsely claiming that the Indian government has instructed citizens to turn off location services on their mobile phones immediately. The message suggested that drones were being used to detect high-population areas, prompting the so-called advisory.

No Such Advisory Issued, Confirms PIB

The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check team has dismissed the message as fake. It clarified that no such advisory has been issued by the Government of India. The false claim was circulated widely, particularly on Instagram stories and WhatsApp forwards, creating unnecessary panic among the public.

Misinformation During Sensitive Times

This misleading message comes amid heightened tensions near the India-Pakistan border, where incidents involving drone sightings and aerial threats have been reported. Authorities have urged citizens to rely only on official government sources for verified information during such critical times.
