PFI Leader Abubacker Denied Bail By Delhi High Court

The Delhi High Court has recently rejected the bail plea of ex-PFI chairman E Abubacker, who was seeking his release under UAPA charges, which are being investigated by NIA, on Tuesday.

While announcing their judgment, the bench consisting of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain, said “We hereby dismiss the appeal.”

Earlier, Abubacker sought bail under both merit and medical grounds.

After being arrested by NIA, as part of huge crackdown against the banned organization in September 2022, he initially approached trial court for his interim bail on medical grounds. After its rejection, he eventually knocked the doors of high court. Where his bail plea got dismissed.

However, in February, the high court ordered Tihar Jail’s medical superintendent, to make sure, that Abubacker receives treatment for his illness regularly.

But it has also refused to place Abubaker under house arrest and announced, he’ll be admitted to hospital for treatment, if needed.

Why PFI Was Banned?

As per National Investigative agency, the popular front of India, planned a criminal conspiracy to get funds for committing terror acts in different parts of the country and established training camps to brainwash and train their cadres for this purpose.

Later, leading the crackdown on PFI, a multi-agency operation headed by NIA, was conducted in September 2022, where a huge number of PFI workers were arrested from 11 states, for supporting terror acts in India.

These arrests were made in the following states and union territories- Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Delhi and Rajasthan.

Then on September 28, 2022, the government imposed the ban of PFI and its associated organizations under the stringent anti-terror law UAPA (Unlawful Activities & Prevention Act). Alleging, they also have terror links with global terror organizations like ISIS.
