Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh on Saturday announced that he will not contest the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. He said he will continue to serve as a “soldier” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Pawan Singh’s statement comes amid speculations that he may contest from one of the seven assembly seats in Bhojpur district, possibly from Ara or Barhara. The rumours intensified after he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha, who is also a Rajya Sabha member.
On social media platform X, Singh wrote, “I, Pawan Singh, want to inform my Bhojpuri community that I did not join the party (BJP) to contest the Bihar assembly elections...nor do I want to contest the assembly elections. I am a true soldier of the party and will remain so.”

Pawan Singh had earlier contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as an Independent from Karakat but lost. The seat was won by Raja Ram Kushwaha of CPI(ML) Liberation.
After Pawan Singh’s announcement, political watchers noted that his decision could influence BJP’s strategies in Bhojpur, where his popularity as a Bhojpuri superstar could have been a vote-puller. His choice not to contest may allow the party to field other candidates without media and public pressure.
Meanwhile, Jyoti Singh, Pawan Singh’s wife, had met political strategist Prashant Kishor in Patna amid speculation that she might enter politics through the Jan Suraaj Party.
Kishor clarified to reporters, “Jyoti ji came to meet us today...let me make it very clear that contesting elections or getting a party ticket is not her intention. She came to explain the difficulties through which she is passing.”
In recent months, Jyoti Singh has appealed to political leaders for assistance. Reports of marital discord between the couple surfaced after Jyoti visited Pawan at his Lucknow flat.

During the visit, the actor left after an hour and a half, while Jyoti remained in the residence. The police were called to the scene, and Jyoti posted a video claiming she had been harassed and threatened with eviction.
The couple’s personal issues have attracted significant media attention, highlighting the challenges of public life for celebrities who also engage in politics.
Pawan Singh’s announcement reflects a growing trend of celebrities aligning with political parties without directly contesting elections. Experts say this approach allows public figures to support political causes, maintain popularity, and avoid direct scrutiny in elections.
A political analyst said, “Actors like Pawan Singh can influence public opinion and party image without contesting polls. It’s a strategic way to remain relevant in politics while avoiding the risks of direct elections.”

While Bhojpuri fans and political observers awaited news of Pawan Singh contesting, his statement makes it clear that his focus will remain on party support and public engagement rather than holding office. His decision also underscores the delicate balance celebrities maintain between politics and personal life.
