Nose cone reportedly damaged
Preliminary checks indicate that the nose of the aircraft was damaged, presumably as a result of hail impact. An Airport Authority of India official stated, “Indigo flight 6E2142 on a flight from Delhi to Srinagar encountered bad weather (hail storm), emergency reported by Pilot to ATC SXR (Srinagar).”
Everyone safe, aircraft grounded
In spite of the scare, the plane landed safely at Srinagar at 6:30 PM. “All Aircrew and 227 passengers are safe and flight is declared AOG by Airline,” the AAI officer affirmed. “AOG” is short for Aircraft on Ground, which signifies the aircraft is grounded for technical inspection and maintenance.
IndiGo affirms safe landing and protocol compliance
IndiGo released a statement verifying the incident, stating, “Flight 6E 2142 from Delhi to Srinagar experienced sudden hailstorm during transit. The cabin crew and flight crew adhered to procedure and the aircraft landed safely at Srinagar.”
The carrier further stated, “The airport staff took care of the customers upon the arrival of the aircraft, taking care of their comfort and well-being. The aircraft will be released after required inspection and maintenance.”
