This bold declaration is made at a time of heightened alert in India’s defense system after the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
Indian Navy Assumes Deterrent Position in Arabian Sea
Vice Admiral AN Pramod expounded on the Indian Navy’s quick and calculated response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed innocent tourists and was blamed on Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. He detailed the fast deployment and readiness for combat by Indian naval personnel.
In the wake of the dastardly attacks on innocent tourists at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistani sponsored terrorists on 22nd April, the Indian Navy’s Carrier battle group, surface ships, submarines and air assets were put to sea with full combat readiness,” he said.
We exercised and tightened up tactics and procedures at sea through several weapon firings in the Arabian Sea within 96 hours of the terrorist attack. Our forces continued to be forward deployed in the Northern Arabian Sea in a forceful and deterrent presence with full capability and readiness to hit targeted targets at sea and ashore, including Karachi, at a time of our choosing,” he said.
Vice Admiral Pramod explained that the forward deployment pushed Pakistan‘s naval and air forces into a mostly defensive position, with their resources remaining near their harbors and under constant monitoring by Indian forces.
“Indian Navy’s forward deployment forced Pakistani naval and air forces to remain in a defensive posture, largely within harbours or extremely close to the coast, which we closely monitored. Our response has been proportionate, non-escalatory, responsible and measured right from day one,” he pointed out.
He concluded by repeating India’s strategic alertness and preparedness to act if goaded. “While we are speaking, the Indian Navy is still deployed afloat in a credible deterrent presence to react with determination to any hostile action on the part of Pakistan.”
