Over 3 lakh candidates compete for 71,000 DU UG seats

Delhi University (DU) has registered a total of 300,090 candidates for the 71,000 available undergraduate seats for the 2024-25 academic session, according to a senior university official. The registration period remains open until August 7, and numbers are expected to increase as more candidates complete their applications.

Out of the registered candidates, 236,717 have fully completed their profiles. Additionally, 93,532 candidates have filled out their college and course preferences, marking the completion of Phase II of the admissions process.

The admission process for the 2024-25 session is currently underway, with DU offering over 71,000 seats across more than 65 colleges through the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG). The process includes both Phase I and Phase II stages.

Phase II of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) began last Friday, following the release of the CUET UG results by the National Testing Agency (NTA). DU has also published the Allocation-cum-Admission schedule for the upcoming academic year.

Despite the commencement of Phase II, Phase I registration is still open, allowing applicants to register until August 7 at 4:59 pm. In Phase II, candidates are required to align the subjects they studied in Class 12 with those they appeared for in CUET UG 2024. Only CUET papers that correspond to subjects passed in board exams will be considered for admissions.

Following the completion of Phases I and II, a simulated rank list will be released on August 11. Candidates will then have the opportunity to revise their preferences from 5 pm on August 11 until 11:59 pm on August 12.

The first merit list for DU UG admissions is scheduled to be released on August 16 at 5 pm. Candidates will have the window from August 16 at 5 pm to August 18 at 4:59 pm to accept their allocated seats. After this, colleges will verify and approve the online applications of the candidates.

The academic session was initially set to begin on August 1 but was delayed due to the late announcement of CUET results by the NTA, amid allegations of discrepancies in NEET and UGC-NET exams.

For the first time this year, DU has introduced a single girl child quota under its supernumerary category. This new provision allows a single girl child to be admitted based on merit across various programs.
