“Our beloved Lata Didi will be missed”, says PM Modi, shares shlok by iconic singer

In anticipation of the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony at the Ayodhya Ram Temple on January 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed heartfelt sentiments, acknowledging the absence of the beloved legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar. On the social media platform X, PM Modi shared, “As the nation awaits January 22 with great enthusiasm, one of the people who will be missed is our beloved Lata Didi.”

PM Modi posted a shloka sung by Lata Mangeshkar, revealing that it was her last recording before she passed away at the age of 92 on February 6, 2022. He tweeted, “As the nation awaits 22nd January with great enthusiasm, one of the people who will be missed is our beloved Lata Didi. Here is a Shlok she sung. Her family told me that it was the last Shlok she recorded. #ShriRamBhajan.” The shloka shared by PM Modi is ‘Shree Ramarpan, Mata Ramo Matpita Ramchandrah.’

Born on September 28, 1929, Lata Mangeshkar, known as the ‘Nightingale of India,’ made an unforgettable contribution to the world of music. Her resonant voice captivated the entire nation, and even in her absence, her musical legacy continues to enchant listeners. The legendary singer dominated the music industry for decades, earning numerous awards and honors throughout her illustrious career.

Among her accolades, Lata Mangeshkar received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and was honored with the Bharat Ratna in 2001. In 2007, France bestowed upon her the Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honour, its highest civilian award. Her list of achievements includes three National Film Awards, 15 Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards, two Filmfare Special Awards, and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, among others.

In a historic moment in 1974, she became the first Indian playback singer to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England. Despite her passing on February 6, 2022, at the age of 92 due to multi-organ failure, Lata Mangeshkar’s soulful songs like ‘Ajeeb Dastan Hai Ye,’ ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logo,’ ‘Lukka Chuppi,’ and ‘Tere Liye’ will forever resonate in our hearts.

Simultaneously, preparations for the Pran Pratishta ceremony of Ram Lalla’s idol in the grand Ayodhya temple are in full swing. The consecration ceremony, scheduled for January 22, will witness Prime Minister Modi as the chief guest, joined by other significant political and public figures. Ayodhya is set to celebrate Amrit Mahotsav from January 14 to January 22 in commemoration of this auspicious occasion.
