Uttar Pradesh authorities declared a Red Alert across the state on Wednesday, May 7, shortly after the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor. This operation targeted multiple terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the deadly Pahalgam attack.

India strikes nine terror locations in Pakistan and PoK
Early Wednesday, Indian forces used missile strikes to hit nine terror-related targets. These included Bahawalpur, the base of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Muridke, home to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Both locations are situated in Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Operation follows deadly Pahalgam attack
These strikes were launched in direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. Indian officials called the attack “barbaric” and promised to respond strongly.
MoD says India acted with restraint
In its statement, the Ministry of Defence stressed that India’s action was both calculated and limited in scope. “Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted.”
It added that the aim was to hit only terrorist infrastructure and not provoke a larger conflict. “India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and the method of execution.”
Terror group headquarters destroyed
Among the nine terror sites destroyed were major facilities linked to JeM and LeT, two groups responsible for multiple attacks on Indian soil. Bahawalpur, the JeM stronghold, and Muridke, LeT’s key training base, were the main targets.
India stands firm on accountability
The government has repeated its resolve to hold terrorists accountable. “We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable,” the Defence Ministry said.
With the alert in place and Indian forces on high readiness, security agencies across India — especially in border states like Uttar Pradesh — are on heightened vigil. Coordination between state police and the military has intensified to prevent any retaliatory attacks.
