A 51-year-old man who sustained severe injuries following a collapse of a metro wall earlier today in the capital city has tragically passed away, as confirmed by a senior police official.
In response, the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) has announced compensation of Rs 15 lakh for the deceased’s family and initiated an investigation into the incident. They have also declared ex-gratia payments of Rs 50,000 for minor injuries and Rs 2.5 lakh for grievous injuries.
DMRC’s Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communications, Anuj Dayal, stated, “Two DMRC officials, a manager and a junior engineer from the civil department, have been immediately suspended pending enquiry.”
The victim has been identified as Vinod Kumar, residing in Karawal Nagar, New Delhi. The other injured individuals are Ajit Kumar (21), Monu (19), Sandeep (27), and Mohd Tazir (24), all residents of New Delhi.
DMRC has pledged to thoroughly investigate the circumstances leading to the incident to implement necessary preventive measures. They have shared all pertinent details with the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).
As a safety measure, train services between Maujpur and Shiv Vihar are operating on a single line due to the temporary closure of the Gokulpuri station’s Up platform. However, the rest of the Pink Line is running as usual.
The incident occurred when a portion of the Gokulpuri metro station’s boundary wall collapsed at 11 am, injuring at least 3 to 4 people, as reported earlier by DCP Tirkey. Legal action will be taken, with a case being registered under relevant sections of the law.
