An enormous 11-foot cobra was discovered inside a home in Odisha, prompting officials to intervene and safely return the snake to the wild. The snake, which became the center of attention after a video of its rescue went viral on social media, was spotted in a house in Bangra village, Mayurbhanj. Upon discovery, authorities were called to remove the cobra, which had reportedly entered the home while chasing a monitor lizard. The snake was later released into the Dukra wildlife range.
Srikanta Mohanty, Range Officer of the Pithabata Range in Baripada forest division, told ANI, “The snake was 11 ft long and weighed 6.7 kgs. After examination by a local veterinarian, the snake was released into its natural habitat today morning.” The short video shows officials carefully handling the large snake, tying it up for secure transport out of the house.

In a similar incident, a 12-foot king cobra caused panic among residents of the Agumbe hamlet in Karnataka. The snake was disturbed by onlookers while crossing a road and sought refuge in a bush within a home’s compound. Worried homeowners contacted the forest department, which then notified the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (ARRS) of the situation. Recognizing the danger posed to both the residents and the snake, ARRS personnel quickly arrived on the scene.
Ajay Giri, ARRS field director, shared a video of the rescue on Instagram and explained the response: “Owner of the house and neighbours got worried and informed in-charge forest department officials. ARRS was informed about the situation. Over the call, we instructed locals about do’s and don’t’s and rushed to the location.”
