Noida International Airport Completes Successful Calibration Flight for Navigation Systems

Noida International Airport (NIA) has completed the calibration of its Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI), marking a crucial milestone in its journey towards operational readiness.

In a statement released on Monday, the airport informed that the calibration process, which commenced on October 10, was carried out using a Beech King Air 360ER aircraft from the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The process was successfully concluded on October 14. This critical operation was conducted with the support of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ensure that the airport meets the highest safety standards for aircraft operations.

“We have successfully completed the calibration of the ILS and PAPI systems at Noida International Airport. This represents a key milestone towards operational readiness and safety,” the NIA stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Importance of ILS and PAPI Calibration

The Instrument Landing System (ILS) is a radio navigation system that provides precise guidance to pilots during approach and landing, particularly under low-visibility conditions. This capability is essential for maintaining operational efficiency and minimizing airport delays.

On the other hand, the Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) system consists of lights positioned beside the runway. These lights offer pilots visual cues regarding their correct descent angle during the final approach. Both systems are critical to ensuring safe landings and smooth operations at the airport.

The successful calibration of the ILS and PAPI systems is a significant step in the airport’s preparations for its operational launch. This milestone brings NIA closer to becoming fully operational, with safety standards being a top priority.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, on November 26, 2021. The airport is strategically located approximately 72 kilometers from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, 52 kilometers from Noida, 130 kilometers from Agra, and 90 kilometers from the Multi-Modal Logistics Hub at Dadri.
