The disturbing incident has raised serious concerns about childcare safety in residential daycares across the Delhi NCR region.
A woman attendant at a daycare in Noida’s Paras Tierea residential complex has been detained following allegations that she assaulted a 15-month-old baby girl. The baby’s parents discovered bite marks on her thighs, which led them to review CCTV footage that revealed the attendant hitting the infant on the face and intentionally dropping her to the ground.
The disturbing incident has raised serious concerns about childcare safety in residential daycares across the Delhi NCR region.
The daycare, managed by the residents’ association of the Paras Tierea complex in Sector 137, serves working parents who leave their children there for a few hours daily. The baby’s parents initially mistook the bite marks for an allergic reaction. However, after daycare staff also raised concerns about the marks, the couple sought medical advice. The doctor confirmed that the marks were bite wounds.

Shocked, the parents asked the complex authorities to review the daycare's CCTV footage. The video clearly shows the attendant physically abusing the baby, striking her face and deliberately dropping her, causing distress. The infant can be seen crying in the footage.
The parents filed a report at the Sector 142 police station after seeing the evidence, which resulted in a formal complaint and the attendant's arrest.
The baby underwent a medical examination to document her injuries. Police are investigating how the daycare, run by a woman named Charu, hired a minor for this sensitive role.
Sandeep, the baby’s father, told NDTV, “On Monday (August 4), we saw the marks on my daughter’s thighs. Fearing an infection, we went to a doctor, who told us these were bite marks. Then we started investigating. We watched the CCTV footage and found out what happened to our daughter. Then we went to the police.”
He added, “We were told that there were three teachers and they would handle the child. We never knew the baby would be with the attendant. The owner of the daycare used to tell us, ‘Your child is very happy.’ We were paying Rs 2,500 for two hours.”
Sandeep also revealed that another family in the complex reported a similar incident at the daycare and plans to file a complaint. He urged authorities to ensure that daycares employ mature, responsible individuals with the patience and skills to care for infants. “These were very tough days. I could not go to work. My wife could not sleep,” he said.

Police are now examining the daycare’s licensing and hiring practices. “We are investigating how a minor was employed in such a role. If there are irregularities, strict action will be taken,” an officer said.
The larger problem of safety and regulation in residential daycare facilities throughout urban India is brought to light by this tragedy. Although many working parents rely on these facilities, there is sometimes minimal control over the training and care standards of the workers. The increase in these incidents necessitates more stringent government oversight, frequent inspection, and explicit recruiting policies for childcare providers.
While working families greatly benefit from residential daycares, the trust that parents have in these facilities must be matched by professionalism and responsibility. To stop abuse and neglect, authorities must guarantee appropriate training, background checks, and supervision.
