It is the first time since the King’s trip to India in 2019 before his coronation that the British royalty visits the country. During the recent visit to India, Indian billionaire Niranjan Hiranandani hosted a special dinner for Prince Edward in Mumbai, which he believes represents a new wave of enthusiasm.
Niranjan Hiranandani, Managing Director of the Hiranandani Group, shared moments from the distinguished evening on Instagram by saying, “Honoured to attend a distinguished dinner hosted by Mr. Harish Salve in honour of The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward. Prince Edward Galvanizes the Youth of India
On his visit, Prince Edward also met the Governor of Maharashtra at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. An important focus of his visit is to promote the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a youth development program that was established in 1956 by his late father, Prince Philip. The program is to help young people discover their purpose and passion.
According to the British High Commission in India, “His Royal Highness will travel to Mumbai and Delhi to promote The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, delivered as The International Award for Young People (IAYP) in India: a non-formal education and learning framework supporting young people to find their purpose, place and passion in the world.”
Since its inception in India in 1962, the award has positively impacted more than 150,000 students across 325 educational institutions. Prince Edward’s visit reinforces the ongoing relationship between India and the UK, with a focus on youth empowerment and education through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
