New FASTag Rules Effective Today: Key Changes To Know

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has unveiled new regulations for the electronic toll collection system, FASTag, which will be implemented from August 1, 2024. These changes aim to enhance the system’s efficiency and security, impacting millions of users nationwide.

Key Dates and Requirements:

  • October 31, 2024: FASTags issued three to five years ago must undergo updated Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures. FASTags older than five years need to be replaced.
  • August 1, 2024: All FASTags must be connected to the vehicle’s registration and chassis numbers. New vehicle owners have 90 days to update their registration number post-purchase.

New Requirements for FASTag Providers: FASTag providers are mandated to:

  • Ensure your databases have accurate vehicle information.
  • Upload clear photos of the vehicle’s front and side for easier identification.
  • Connect each FASTag to a mobile number for better communication.

Impact on FASTag Users: The new rules will particularly affect users with older vehicles or FASTags. Non-compliance could lead to issues at toll plazas and potential service suspensions. Vehicle owners are urged to act promptly to avoid any disruptions.

Steps for Vehicle Owners:

  • Check the issuance date of your FASTag.
