Nepal PM Dahal Confirmed for Narendra Modi’s Swearing-in Ceremony

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is slated to attend Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony as Indian prime minister on Saturday, as confirmed by Amrit Rai, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Rai affirmed that Prime Minister Dahal will travel to New Delhi for the event, with the foreign ministry currently finalizing the accompanying delegates.

Modi is set to make history by assuming office for a third consecutive term after his Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 293 seats in the recent elections. He becomes only the second leader to achieve this feat after founding Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

In 2014, the then Prime Minister Sushila Koirala attended Modi’s inaugural ceremony when he was first elected.

The Indian government has extended invitations to heads of government from other Saarc countries for the swearing-in ceremony.

Prime Minister Dahal conveyed his congratulations to Modi following his election victory on Tuesday.

Dahal expressed his sentiments on X, acknowledging the successful completion of India’s democratic exercise and the enthusiastic participation of its people as Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party won 240 seats in the 543-member lower house.

Furthermore, the prime minister engaged in a telephone conversation with Modi.

“Happy to speak with PM @cmprachanda. Thanked him for his warm wishes,” Modi stated in a post on X. “We reaffirmed our shared commitment to bolster the deep-rooted and multifaceted partnership between India and Nepal, and agreed to sustain the positive momentum in our relations.”

Additionally, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli, alongside other leaders from Nepal, conveyed their congratulations to the Indian leader on his electoral triumph.
