Sandeep Pathak, a Rajya Sabha MP representing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), took to social media on Monday to declare widespread protests against the central government regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET exam. Pathak announced that the AAP would stage a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on June 18 and conduct nationwide demonstrations on June 19, condemning what he described as scams affecting the aspirations of lakhs of students.
“Many irregularities have surfaced in the NEET exam. The country cannot tolerate such scams by the Modi government, which jeopardize the hard work and dreams of numerous children,” Pathak stated in a Hindi-language post.
The NEET-UG exam, conducted on May 5 across 4,750 centers in 571 cities, serves as the gateway to undergraduate medical programs in India. Following the announcement of results on June 4, concerns were raised by teachers and parents regarding alleged discrepancies involving the awarding of grace marks to 1,563 students.
In response to the controversy, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan assured stringent action against any National Testing Agency (NTA) personnel implicated in irregularities. “There are reports of two types of anomalies in NEET conduct,” Pradhan acknowledged, as reported by PTI. He underscored the government’s commitment to resolving the issue thoroughly and holding responsible officials accountable.
Pathak’s announcement of protests underscores growing discontent and demands for accountability within the educational sector. The AAP’s planned demonstrations aim to draw attention to what they perceive as systemic flaws affecting students across the country.
As the NEET controversy unfolds, stakeholders await further developments amidst heightened scrutiny and calls for transparency in the examination process.
