Need to promote innovations useful for defence, civil sectors: Rajnath Singh

On Monday, during the 12th convocation ceremony of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) in Pune, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the importance of fostering innovation within institutions. He stated that these innovations should not only benefit the defence industry but also have practical applications for civilian purposes. Singh cited instances where technologies like navigation systems, originally developed for military use, eventually found widespread utility in civilian life.

According to the defence minister, plastic surgery has significant relevance to the defence sector. He observed that soldiers often sustain injuries during warfare, resulting in unfortunate damage to various body parts. The defence minister acknowledged that plastic surgery, which serves as a blessing, not only aids in the recovery of injured soldiers but also has positive implications for civilian life.

Nations must prioritize rapid technological advancement. He highlighted the significance of staying mindful of the potential challenges that could arise if adversaries possess more advanced technologies in the future. Singh emphasized the need to swiftly progress technologically in response to evolving circumstances. The minister also emphasized that apart from traditional threats in land and air domains, the cyberspace and space sectors also pose potential risks.

Rajnath Singh also met former President Pratibha Patil and personally expressed condolences to her on the demise of her spouse, Dr. Devisingh Shekhawat.
