In the wake of the shocking rape and murder of a postgraduate student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has presented a series of urgent demands aimed at enhancing the safety of doctors and improving hospital conditions across the country.

In response to the ongoing issues and as a gesture of solidarity, the IMA has announced a 24-hour strike by modern medicine doctors nationwide. This strike will begin at 6 am on August 17 and end at 6 am on August 18. During this period, outpatient department (OPD) services and elective surgeries will be suspended, although emergency and casualty services will continue to operate.
The IMA’s action is aimed at garnering public support and highlighting the urgent need for justice and systemic changes to protect medical professionals and ensure their safety.
