NCC Republic Day Camp 2024: Record 907 girls in highest cadet turnout

The Republic Day Camp 2024 by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) has achieved a significant milestone, recording the highest number of girl cadets. A total of 2,274 cadets from all 28 states and eight Union Territories are set to participate in the month-long event. Notably, the inclusion of 907 girls marks the largest participation of female cadets in the camp’s history.

During the occasion, Lt. General Gurbirpal Singh, Director General NCC, highlighted the organization’s accomplishments and assessed its performance in the past year. He emphasized the excellence of the training and drill standards of the NCC Girls Cadets, announcing their participation in this year’s Republic Day parade. This marks a departure from the previous practice of having a mixed contingent.

Lt. Gen Gurbirpal Singh expressed his satisfaction with the increased participation of girls in the NCC, revealing a commendable 39% participation rate. He praised the high standard of their training and enthusiasm for engaging in various activities.

The Republic Day Camp will also feature an international dimension through the Youth Exchange Programme, with cadets and officers from 25 friendly countries participating. These countries include Argentina, Botswana, Bhutan, Brazil, Czech Republic, Fiji, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Tajikistan, UK, Venezuela, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Nigeria, Mauritius, and Mozambique.

Highlighting the global representation at the camp, Lt. Gen Gurbirpal Singh stated, “Representatives from 25 countries will attend, akin to the National Cadet Corps.”

The Republic Day Parade will feature French President Emanuel Macron as the Chief Guest, adding to the international significance of the event.

The fundamental objective of the Republic Day Camp remains the instillation of patriotism, discipline, and leadership qualities among the cadets. The annual event serves as a platform for valuable training, cultural engagement, and participation in social service initiatives, fostering unity and pride.

As the nation anticipates the Republic Day Camp, there is heightened excitement for the remarkable performance expected from the women’s contingent, poised to make a lasting impact on the grand stage of the Republic Day celebrations.
