“My God is the Poor People of India, the People of Wayanad,”: Rahul Gandhi Asserts In Kerala

Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi expressed gratitude to the voters in Kerala who contributed to his Lok Sabha victory from the Wayanad constituency in the 2024 general elections.

During his visit to the state, Gandhi acknowledged his substantial victory margin of 3,64,422 votes over his rival CPI candidate Annie Raja in the north Kerala constituency. In the previous 2019 elections, he secured the seat with a record margin of 4.3 lakh votes.

Speaking at a public gathering in Malappuram, Gandhi, who also won from the Raebareli seat in Uttar Pradesh, humorously remarked on his dilemma: “I have a dilemma in front of me — Will I be a Member of Parliament of Wayanad or Raebareli?”

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Modi, Gandhi highlighted the shifting statements made by the Prime Minister, stating, “Unfortunately, unlike the prime minister, I’m not guided by God. I’m a human being.”

Gandhi emphasized his connection to the people and his commitment to serving their interests, stating, “My God is the poor people of India. My God is the people of Wayanad.”

He criticized the Prime Minister’s actions and asserted the importance of respecting the Constitution, saying, “The 21st century is a visual century, images have become much more important.”

Reflecting on the Lok Sabha election results, Gandhi commented on the formation of the new government in Delhi, describing it as a “crippled government” and asserting the Opposition’s role in advocating for a pro-poor vision for India.
