MP Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha Suggests Women to Ask Husbands to Consume Liquor at Home

Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha suggested on Friday that women should ask their husbands to bring liquor home and consume it there, as a tactic to shame them and encourage them to quit drinking. Speaking at a Nasha Mukti Abhiyan event in Bhopal, Kushwaha, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, emphasized that if men drink alcohol in front of their families, they would feel embarrassed and gradually give up their addiction.

“Those men who come home after consuming liquor from outside, their wives should tell them to bring the liquor at home and drink it. If they consume alcohol in front of women and children at home, they will feel ashamed and it will gradually let them get rid of the addiction of drinking,” Kushwaha stated.

He also advised women not to prepare food for intoxicated individuals and suggested using symbolic gestures like showing a rolling pin (belan) to deter such behavior. Kushwaha acknowledged societal norms but urged that values should not hinder efforts to stop harmful practices.

Regarding the possibility of a liquor ban in Madhya Pradesh, Kushwaha mentioned that while the issue is being considered at the government level, bans have not necessarily prevented alcohol availability in other states. He emphasized the role of public awareness in potentially implementing such measures.

As part of the Nasha Mukti Abhiyan, Minister Kushwaha inaugurated the Jan Jagrukta Rath in Bhopal, aimed at raising awareness about addiction prevention across different areas of the city.
