MP Minister Advises Women To Ask Husbands To ‘Drink At Home’- Why?

Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha offered unconventional advice to women, urging them to ask their husbands to bring liquor and drink at home. The minister suggested that this tactic would make men feel ashamed, potentially discouraging them from consuming alcohol.

Kushwaha, who serves as the Social Justice and Empowerment Minister, made these remarks while speaking at a Nasha Mukti Abhiyan (Addiction-Free Campaign) event in Bhopal. He stated, “Those men who come home after consuming liquor outside should be told by their wives to bring the liquor home and drink it. If they consume alcohol in front of women and children at home, they will feel ashamed, and it will gradually help them overcome their addiction.”

The minister also advised women not to serve food to those who return home intoxicated. He encouraged the formation of “Belan gangs,” where women would show their rolling pins to men drink at home. Kushwaha added, “Many people hesitate to do this because of social values, but values should not prevent us from stopping wrongdoings.”

When questioned about the possibility of a liquor ban in Madhya Pradesh, Kushwaha noted that even in states with such bans, liquor is still accessible. He said, “I had suggested a liquor ban during my previous tenure, but liquor is seen even in states where it is banned. A liquor ban in the state is under consideration at the government level. The central and state governments can make a decision on this in the future. A liquor ban can be achieved through public awareness.”

Kushwaha’s remarks have sparked a conversation about alcohol consumption and the measures needed to address addiction in Madhya Pradesh.
