Heavy rains are seen hitting many parts of Kerala, showing an action from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). On Saturday, the IMD issued alerts across the state to warn residents about the severe weather conditions. Specifically, an orange alert was issued for Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts, indicating that these areas should be ready for potentially significant impacts from the weather. This alert advises residents and authorities to be alert and prepared for extreme conditions such as heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible flooding.
In addition to the orange alert, a yellow alert was issued for nine other districts in Kerala. A yellow alert signifies that these districts should stay updated about changing weather conditions that could lead to localized issues.
The decision to issue these alerts was taken due to the ongoing heavy rainfall affecting Kerala. These alerts are important as they help communities and authorities prepare for possible risks and take necessary precautions in advance to safeguard lives and property. It is essential for everyone to closely look at updates from the IMD and follow safety guidelines during this period of intense weather activity.
Looking ahead, the weather department has forecasted thunderstorms with moderate rainfall and winds specifically in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam districts for the day. Furthermore, an orange alert has been extended for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts from June 14 to June 16. This extended alert period underscores the potential for sustained severe weather conditions in these regions, urging residents to remain alert and prepared.
Residents are strongly advised to stay updated on weather forecasts, avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions, and take necessary precautions to ensure personal safety and minimize any potential impacts from the unstable weather. It is advised to not leave your house during the heavy rainfall for utmost safety of you and your family
