A man wearing a helmet was caught on CCTV publicly assaulting a woman, kicking and punching her while she lay on the ground. The incident, which occurred in the capital city of Aizawl, has prompted the Mizoram State Commission for Women to take suo moto notice of the assault.
The assailant has been identified as 22-year-old Lalnunfela, a resident of Aizawl’s Bethlehem area. Following the incident, the police registered a case based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, who recognized her daughter through the CCTV footage.
The Mizoram State Commission for Women has requested a report from the Officer-in-Charge of the Kulikawn Police Station within seven days. Authorities have filed a case under relevant sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
According to sources from the Mizoram police, they have faced challenges in contacting both the victim and the assailant, as their phones have been switched off. The police are currently working to trace their movements on the outskirts of Aizawl.
The Mizoram State Commission for Women has also indicated that they are awaiting a report from the police regarding the medical treatment the victim may require following the assault.
