A migrant allegedly shot himself after snatching a pistol from a policeman near the Golden Temple on Sunday morning. The incident took place at around 7 am, and the victim, who remains unidentified, was rushed to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishaljit Singh stated that the victim was not carrying any form of identification, wallet, or mobile phone, complicating efforts to establish his identity. A probe is underway.
The policeman involved, Ashwani Kumar, was on duty near the Golden Temple plaza when the victim approached, seized his weapon, and fatally shot himself in the head. The entire incident unfolded within seconds, according to the ADCP.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to trace the victim’s movements before the incident.
