A 23-year-old woman is believed to have drowned at Marine Drive early Monday after an alleged dispute with her male friend, according to police reports.
The woman, identified as Mamta Kadam, lived in Andheri and worked for an IT company. She left her home early in the morning, stating she was going to the office.
Officials noted that around 10 a.m., she was seen sitting on the Promenade, conversing on her mobile before placing it in her bag and heading towards the sea.“A passerby noticed her body in the sea and alerted the police,” an officer said. Fire brigade personnel recovered her body, which was transported to GT Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“We found her laptop, mobile phone, identity card, and some jewelry in her bag,” the officer stated, adding that her family has been notified. “We understand from her phone conversations that she was facing issues with her intended marriage, which may have led her to take this step,” said the officer.
