Police Order Shop Closures In Manimajra For Amit Shah’s Visit

Manimajra: The police in Manimajra have issued an order requiring all the shops to be closed down on August 4, when Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the area to inaugurate a 24-hour water supply scheme. Police personnel are visiting each shop to inform the owners of this directive and are also recording their mobile numbers, names, and addresses.

Shopkeepers raise concerns over closure

Rameshwar Giri, a local shopkeeper and social worker, expressed concerns about the potential losses shopkeepers could face due to the closure. Many shopkeepers rely on daily sales for their livelihood, and perishable goods that are not sold on the same day could result in significant losses. Some businesses depend on daily earnings, and the closure will impact their income.

Congress opposes the directive

Congress leaders, including District President Surjit Dhillon, Block President Sanjeev Gaba, and K.R. Mahajan, have criticised the police’s actions, alleging that the closure order is a form of harassment. They argue that the police are using security concerns as a pretext to avoid responsibility and are causing undue hardship to shopkeepers.

The Manimajra Vyapar Mandal, represented by President Malkit Singh, has also voiced objections. Singh contends that the police’s approach to security should not involve forcing shopkeepers to close their businesses. He decries this attitude as unfair and detrimental to the local economy.
