A shocking murder-suicide rocked Mumbai’s Worli area early Sunday morning after a 62-year-old man allegedly shot his wife dead before turning the gun on himself. The incident took place in Siddharth Nagar, Pankaj Mansion, and is suspected to have stemmed from ongoing family tensions.
Ongoing Family Disputes Turn Deadly
The accused, Rajmohan Nampilley, reportedly shot his 58-year-old wife, Lata, while she was asleep in the hall of their second-floor flat. The couple lived with their son, daughter-in-law, and other family members. According to police, Nampilley had been arguing frequently with his son about living arrangements, expressing a desire for the younger couple to move out. His wife, however, supported their son, which led to increased tension in the household.
Senior Inspector Nilesh Salunkhe-Patil of the Worli police confirmed, “The incident appears to have occurred due to ongoing family issues.”
Nampilley’s nephew, who had stayed over that night and was sleeping in the passage, woke up after hearing the gunshot. When he asked Nampilley about the sound and the smoke, he was reportedly told it was just a short circuit and to go back to sleep.
Minutes later, Nampilley walked out of the flat and sat on the building staircase, where he allegedly shot himself in the head.
Discovery and Police Action
Nampilley was found by a newspaper vendor lying in a pool of blood on the stairs. He immediately informed the building’s watchman. When the watchman entered the flat, he found Lata’s lifeless bodyand told the family and police.
They were rushed to KEM Hospital in Parel, where they were declared dead on arrival. Police recovered a country-made pistol from the scene.
Nampilley had previously worked as an electrician in Qatar before returning to India, as reported by the police. His son was married in 2023.
A murder case has been registered against Nampilley. Authorities are now investigating and are questioning family members for more details.
