Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi Arrive in Kerala for Priyanka Gandhi’s Wayanad Nomination Filing

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi landed in Kerala on Wednesday, gearing up for Priyanka Gandhi’s nomination filing for the Wayanad bypoll. Rahul Gandhi is set to lead a roadshow in Kalpetta prior to the nomination event.

Upon reaching Sultan Bathery, the two leaders were warmly welcomed by party officials and supporters. Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, General Secretary KC Venugopal, and various other leaders are also expected to attend the nomination filing at the district collector’s office in Kalpetta.

Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) National General Secretary PK Kunhalikutty noted that thousands are anticipated to join Priyanka Gandhi’s nomination rally. “Rahul Gandhi proved his mettle in UP last time, winning from Raebareli. The Gandhi family can contest from anywhere, and Wayanad will see a massive turnout today,” he stated.

Priyanka Gandhi is scheduled to address a public meeting at 11:45 AM at Gudalai, near the KWA Office in Kalpetta. The Wayanad seat was vacated by Rahul Gandhi, who retained his constituency in Rae Bareli. Priyanka will be up against Navya Haridas from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Sathyan Mokeri from the Left Democratic Front (LDF). Haridas is a two-time councillor from Kozhikode Corporation.

Rahul Gandhi expressed confidence that both Rae Bareli and Wayanad will be represented by two MPs, backing Priyanka’s candidacy. If elected, she will become the third member of the Gandhi family to serve in Parliament.

Indian Youth Congress chief Uday Bhanu Chib remarked, “A new chapter in Indian history is about to begin. Priyanka will amplify the voices of women and youth in Parliament.” He also addressed BJP’s criticism of her candidacy, stating that the party’s concerns reflect their fears of losing in upcoming elections.

Prior to her active political role, Priyanka Gandhi managed the family stronghold in Amethi and Rae Bareli, emerging as a key strategist for the Congress party. The Wayanad bypoll is scheduled for November 13.
