Malaysia Rejects Pakistan’s Religion Card Against India, Says ‘We Are Both Islamic Countries’

Despite intense pressure from the Pakistani embassy, Malaysia refused to halt Indian outreach programs, which was a glaring diplomatic setback for Islamabad. Citing their common Islamic identity, the Pakistani mission urged Malaysian authorities to cancel all ten of the events planned by the Indian delegation, which was led by JDU MP Sanjay Jha. However, Malaysia, denied the appeal and permitted the programs to continue under India’s Operation Sindoor initiative.

Before the Indian delegation’s arrival, Pakistani authorities tried to sabotage the initiative. They went to Malaysian authorities and said, “We are an Islamic country, you are an Islamic country. don’t listen to the Indian delegation.” The appeal sought to cancel all ten events scheduled in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia Stands Firm

Malaysia rejected Pakistan’s request. Authorities granted completely clearance for all the ten programmes scheduled. Sources informed that Malaysia would not associate diplomacy with religious feelings. It also listed the Kashmir dispute’s current status in the United Nations as a reason not to meddle.

Malaysia was the last leg in a five-country diplomatic visit involving Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Indonesia. The nine-member Indian team that arrived on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur met leaders from Malaysia’s People’s Justice Party (PKR). The PKR delegation was headed by YB Sim Tze Tzin, who was once a cabinet minister under Mahathir Mohamad.

Cross-Party Indian Team in Action

Among the Indian delegation were MPs from both sides of the political divide—BJP’s Aparajita Sarangi, Brij Lal, Pradan Baruah, and Hemang Joshi; TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee, CPM’s John Brittas, Congress’s Salman Khurshid, and ex-Indian diplomat Mohan Kumar.

They emphasized India’s determination during Operation Sindoor and its stringent zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism.

PoK, Terror Strikes Discussed

The delegation informed Malaysian leaders of India’s precision attacks on terror launchpads in Pakistan. They described India’s “new normal” in addressing cross-border terror threats. Addressing a Sunday function with the Indian diaspora in Kuala Lumpur, TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee announced that India would hold discussions only with Pakistan if it surrendered Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

On his return from the tour, Sanjay Jha informed PTI that all five nations condoled the Pahalgam terror attack victims. He said political leaders in other countries valued India’s specific response to terror infrastructure, reinforcing international legitimacy of Operation Sindoor.
