Major Drug Bust in Mizoram’s Champhai District: Over 5 kg Crystal Meth and 80 grams Heroin Seized; 2 Arrested

In a major joint operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) Guwahati Zonal Unit, in coordination with the NCB Agartala Zonal Unit and the Border Security Force (BSF), confiscated 5.06 kg of crystal meth and 80 grams of heroin in Mizoram’s Champhai district. The operation, based on solid evidence, sought to disrupt an international network that trafficked crystal meth and heroin from Myanmar to India.

The NCB Guwahati, NCB Agartala, and BSF teams, through continuous on-ground surveillance, identified and cracked down on the criminal network responsible for the supply chain. Two individuals were apprehended on the evening of January 7, 2024, in Zokhawthar, Champhai district, as they were en route to meet the intended buyer.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Laldinpuii, a Myanmar citizen residing in Tahan, and Lalengliani, a resident of Zokhawthar town. The subsequent search operation conducted by the teams led to the recovery of 5.06 kg of crystal meth packaged in five packets and 80 grams of heroin concealed in plastic packets inside seven soap cases.

According to the official statement from NCB Guwahati, the contraband’s source was traced back to Myanmar, with Zokhawthar in Champhai district marked as the intended destination.

This successful operation underscores the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in curbing the illegal drug trade, particularly the trafficking of highly potent substances like crystal meth and heroin. The seizure not only disrupts the supply chain but also sends a strong message against transnational drug networks operating in the region. The arrested individuals will face legal proceedings for their involvement in this illicit trade.
