Preneet Kaur, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee for the Patiala Lok Sabha seat and former Minister of State for External Affairs, officially submitted her nomination papers for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Monday.
In response to remarks made by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor over BJP not winning more than 200 seats. Kaur, in reply, expressed confidence, stating, “The public will overwhelmingly support the BJP.” Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has arrived in Punjab to campaign for BJP candidates. Punjab will conduct voting for its 13 seats in a single phase. The seventh and final phase of voting on June 1 will cover Gurudaspur, Amritsar, Khadoor Sahib, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nandpur Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Firozpur, Bathinda, Sangrur, and Patiala constituencies.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the INC-led UPA alliance secured eight seats with a vote share of 40.6 per cent, while the NDA managed to secure four seats with a voting of 9.7%. The AAP, making its debut, secured one seat. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and AAP each won 4 seats, while Congress secured 3 seats. The BJP managed to secure only two seats.
Vote counting will take place on June 4.
