Lok Sabha Election 2024: MP’S Betul Constituency Heads To Repolling Today

Madhya Pradesh’s Betul Lok Sabha constituency heads to repolling today as few EVMs got damaged on May 7’s fire accident.

As a result, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had called for repolling at four booths in the Multai assembly segment. Which is being conducted on May 10, in the aftermath of EVM’s damage due to fire on Tuesday night.

Currently, the repolling is ongoing at Rajapur, Kunda Raiyat, Chikhlimal and Dudar Raiyat of the Multai assembly segment.

However, what sets this election apart is that indelible ink will be applied to voters’ middle fingers, while first-time voters will have it applied to their index fingers.

“As per the direction of ECI, we are applying ink on the middle finger. We have motivated the people of the village and have informed those who reside outside that they should come and vote.” said administrative officer Rajesh Kumar Dubey.

Administrative officer Rajesh Kumar has further emphasized that the ECI is hopeful that this time, a large number of people will turn out to vote.

In the previous election, out of 3,037 eligible voters across four constituencies, almost 2,346 came to cast their votes.

This time, the administration is optimistic that the voter turnout will reach a satisfactory level. As they are aiming for 70% turnout across all the constituencies.

What Happened on May 7th’s Incident?

Earlier, the bus carrying 36 people containing polling personnel along with an EVM caught fire in Betul district, while they were coming back to Goula village

As revealed by SP Nischal Jharia of Betul, mechanical fault was the cause behind the fire, but fortunately everybody survived, and none suffered any injuries.

“The polling personnel left with EVMs of six polling booths…The fire broke out due to a mechanical fault. Two EVMs are undamaged while four others suffered a little damage to their parts. There were 36 people on the bus. They jumped out of the bus by somehow breaking the glass on the windows of the bus as its doors got jammed. They did not suffer injuries…They were sent ahead on another bus…A case has been registered in this regard.” said recounted Betul SP Nischal Jharia to ANI.
