Lok Sabha Adjourned Amid Opposition Protests Over Adani Indictment

The Winter Session of Parliament witnessed high drama on its opening day as the Lok Sabha was adjourned until November 29 amid intense sloganeering by Opposition MPs. The protests centered around demands for a discussion on multiple pressing issues, including the recent indictment of the Adani Group.

Chaos erupted shortly after proceedings began, with Opposition members vocally pressing for a detailed debate on the allegations against the corporate conglomerate, as well as other matters of national importance. Speaker Om Birla’s repeated attempts to restore order were unsuccessful, leading to the adjournment of the House.

The Adani Group indictment has become a flashpoint, with Opposition parties, including the Congress, alleging a lack of accountability and transparency. Leaders from these parties accused the government of shielding corporate entities and demanded immediate action.

In addition to the Adani issue, MPs called for discussions on inflation, unemployment, and farmer-related concerns. “The government cannot run away from these discussions. Parliament exists to deliberate on issues affecting the nation,” said a senior Opposition leader.

The ruling BJP countered the allegations, accusing the Opposition of disrupting Parliament without engaging in meaningful dialogue. “These are baseless claims aimed at derailing the session,” a party spokesperson said.

The adjournment has set the stage for a heated second day, as the Opposition plans to intensify its demands for accountability and transparency. The Winter Session, which began on November 28, is expected to address key legislative matters alongside debates on contentious issues.
