Light rain swept across several parts of the national capital on Sunday afternoon, offering relief from the persistent humid weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted light rain for Saturday and Sunday. “Rain will reduce in Delhi from August 17 onwards. There is a possibility of light rain today and tomorrow, with rain likely ending the day after tomorrow. Light showers may resume after that,” IMD scientist Soma Sen informed on Saturday.
According to the IMD, Delhi has experienced daily rainfall from August 1 until Thursday. On Friday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees above normal, while humidity levels remained at 70%.
Last week’s heavy rains led to tragic incidents in the capital. A seven-year-old boy drowned in a pond formed by accumulated rainwater in a DDA park in Rohini. A preliminary police investigation confirmed the drowning, and the body was sent for post-mortem.
Earlier, on July 27, three UPSC aspirants lost their lives when a basement library in Old Rajinder Nagar’s Rau’s IAS Circle was flooded during a heavy downpour.
