KHARGE TO ASSIGN RESPONSIBILITIES TO NEW TEAM SOON Before upcoming polls

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will soon assign responsibilities to the members of his newly-constituted team. General Secretary, KC Venugopal is likely to continue as in-charge of the organisation.
Venugopal is now set to take over the role of late Ahmed Patel, who was once the most trustworthy advisor of the then Congress boss Sonia Gandhi. While, General Secretary (Organisation), Venugopal is the most reliable advisor of Rahul Gandhi.
Priyanka Gandhi has also served as party’s general secretary for a long time. Priyanka’s supporters were hopeful that she would be made Vice president or working president of the party in view of her growing popularity. Instead, she is likely to be made in-charge of key states like Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Also, more than 100 new secretaries are likely to be appointed.
Significantly, three new departments, which were announced during the Chintan Shivir at Udaipur are unlikely to be opened. An important resolution which was billed as a landmark internal reform is also being ignored for now. The resolution stated that no person should hold same position in the party for more than five years. The office-bearer can be reappointed only after a cooling-off period of three years. If this reform had been implemented, more than a dozen new faces would have got prime positions in the party.
There is a dearth of experienced leaders in Congress. Kharge had to face a tough time while forming CWC. The leaders who were lobbying with seniors were accommodated in the highest decision making body of the party. Some of them did not even contest a single election. Now allocation of work is a challenging task.
Earlier, there was no contest for the post of general secretary (organisation) because of Rahul Gandhi’s intervention.
The three new departments, which are likely to be launched include Public Insight Department, National Training Institute and Election Management Department. The leader heading the election management department would be wielding power like the general secretary (organisation).
After Karnataka success, Randeep Singh Surjewala was also hopeful of top post. He is likely to be given charge of MP where he is looking after election related responsibilities now.
The in-charges of poll-bound states like Rajasthan, MP, Telangana and Chhattisgarh are likely to continue there only. New in-charges may be appointed for Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Haryana, UP and Punjab.
