Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge today raised a concern with Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Kharge expressed that the Opposition doesn’t have sufficient opportunities to express their opinions on different matters within the parliament. He requested that the cameras broadcasting the proceedings should give equal attention to Opposition MPs when they speak.
“We don’t get the chance outside. We do here, so please let us have it,” he said while addressing the Rajya Sabha on the first day of the special session of the Parliament on Monday. All MPs should have the freedom to speak, even if he himself might be wrong at times, Kharge told Dhankhar. “Even for my small mistakes, you punish me harshly. They (BJP MPs) make such huge mistakes that the entire country watches, but you forgive everything. I request you to balance both,” he said.
Kharge went on to say that what is discussed on the record also conveys a message to the public, indicating that they are addressing people’s concerns. He further stated that the important constitutional duties performed by MPs in Parliament should receive support from both him and the government.
