Kerala School Holiday: Kerala will witness district-wise public holidays this December in view of the Local Bodies Election 2025. The administration has put out an official, detailed list with respect to the areas that will be closing on December 9 and December 11, ensuring smooth polling.

All government offices and educational institutions, from schools to universities, will be closed on the assigned dates. Commercial establishments have also been instructed to provide paid leave so that voters can participate without curbs. On the other hand, parts of Tamil Nadu have announced additional closures due to Cyclone Ditwah, adding another layer of disruption to the region.

Polling Schedule & Voting Details

The elections to 1,199 local bodies will be held in two phases on December 9 and 11. The voting hours are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The State Election Commission’s “TREND 2025” portal.

The elections cover grama panchayats, block panchayats, district panchayats, municipalities and corporations. Thiruvananthapuram Corporation remains a key battleground with major parties preparing for a high-stakes contest.

Holiday Applies to Public & Private Sectors

The government has declared the holiday obligatory for all public offices, schools and colleges. Private institutions, including shops, companies and commercial establishments, are obliged to provide paid leave or allow adequate time off so that workers can vote. This is to ensure that no qualified voter is prevented from participating in voting because of prior work obligations.

Cyclone Ditwah: Schools Across Kerala Closed in Tamil Nadu

While Kerala is gearing up for the elections, the southern districts of Tamil Nadu are experiencing inclement weather due to Cyclone Ditwah. Authorities in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram ordered the closure of all government and private schools and colleges on Tuesday after heavy rainfall warning.

The decision has been taken with an emphasis on ensuring the safety of the students and minimizing traveling risks during the storm.
