In a shocking incident, a 33-year-old Karnataka woman has been arrested for allegedly poisoning her husband, children, and in-laws by secretly mixing sleeping pills into their meals. The accused, identified as Chaitra, was arrested on June 5 after her husband discovered the tablets in her bag while searching for a mobile phone.
The couple had been married for 11 years and lived in a village in the district with their two children, aged 8 and 10, and Chaitra’s in-laws. According to the police, the poisoning had been going on for a couple of months.
Affair, Family Tensions, and a Conspiracy
Mohammad Sujeetha MS, Superintendent of Police, Hassan, confirmed the arrest. “We have arrested Chaitra, and a team has been formed to nab (her paramour) Shivu,” he said. Investigators suspect Shivu was involved in the conspiracy to murder the family.
Chaitra’s husband, Gajendra, shared that their relationship began to suffer three years ago due to her alleged affair with a man named Puneeth. After both families intervened, the matter seemed settled. However, Gajendra said she later got involved with another man, Shivu, from the same neighborhood. “I had informed Chaitra’s parents, and there was a fight last year. A case was also lodged against me, and I spent some days in jail,” he added.
Karnataka Woman Planned To Murder Family
Over the past two months, the family began experiencing dizziness, fatigue, and unusually long periods of sleep. Gajendra later found various tablets in Chaitra’s bag. “I went to a doctor and did not tell him about the history. I showed him the tablets and he was surprised. He told me that those were sleeping pills and none would give them without a doctor’s prescription,” Gajendra said.
Blood tests revealed traces of the drugs, confirming that the family had been ingesting them unknowingly. “For two months, my parents, children, and I were feeling dizzy from morning to evening,” he said.
The Karnataka woman allegedly rotated the pills used in the food to avoid suspicion. Her children later confirmed suspicions. “They said they had seen their mother mixing powders in food and coffee,” Gajendra told police.
An FIR has been filed, and police are now working to arrest Shivu, the second accused. The case has shocked the community and raised concerns about domestic safety.
